The Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture recently announced that it will distribute seeds free of charge to farmers in various regions of Santa Rosa Province in an effort to boost crop production.

According to a report by the Guatemalan News Agency on the 17th, based on information from the Ministry of Agriculture, households in the towns of Oratorio, Santa María Ixhuatán, Santa Rosa de Lima, Casillas, and Pueblo Nuevo Viñas, located in the province of Santa Rosa, will receive seeds distributed free by the Ministry of Agriculture, enabling them to further enhance their agricultural cultivation efforts.

According to reports, the seeds distributed this time include pumpkin seeds, as well as certified corn and bean seeds. The aim is to benefit individuals engaged in family-based agricultural production. This way, these individuals will have ample time and access to necessary resources, enabling them to better prepare for the planting season and engage in self-sufficient food production.

This distribution of materials by the Ministry of Agriculture marks the first time that agricultural supplies have been delivered so promptly, enabling farming households to plan and execute their various agricultural activities at the optimal time.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture recently conducted a vaccination campaign targeting large livestock in Baja Verapaz, successfully administering vaccines to nearly 100 cattle. This initiative effectively strengthened animal health and disease prevention protocols and mitigated the risk of potential outbreaks of livestock diseases.

The vaccination campaign also included educational efforts aimed at local producers, emphasizing the importance of maintaining regular vaccination schedules for livestock and implementing appropriate sanitation measures to ensure the long-term sustainable development of their production systems.

By ensuring that livestock are in optimal health and by reducing health risks that could potentially impact rural economies, these initiatives have significantly contributed to improving food security levels.
