On May 15, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice inviting public comments on Amendment No. 3 to the National Standard for the Requirements for the Restriction of Excessive Packaging of Commodities: Food and Cosmetics (Second Revised Draft for Comments). The deadline for submitting comments was July 13, 2026. This amendment focuses on tightening the packaging layer count, void rate, and cost proportion indicators for festive items such as zongzi and mooncakes, strengthening regulations on excessive packaging in e-commerce channels, and refining the relevant clauses regarding packaging reduction, lightweighting, and biodegradable alternatives.
