According to SeafoodMedia, Namibia’s commercial fishing industry produces around 300,000 tons of seafood annually. However, it is currently facing multiple challenges posed by climate change, illegal fishing, and an increase in the populations of seals and whales.
With its pristine waters and stable political environment, Namibia aims to replicate Norway’s successful salmon farming model. Its existing licensed enterprises are projected to produce over 50,000 tons of salmon, generating an estimated value of 6.4 billion Namibia dollars.
It is projected that the salmon farming industry will inject N$6.4 billion into the national economy, positioning Namibia as a potential hub for food production in southern Africa.
