According to the Myanmar Trade Promotion Bureau, Myanmar is planning to resume exports of Myanmar Boro Mountain rice to the United States.

On April 29, the Myanmar Trade Promotion Board held a coordination meeting online in its conference room to facilitate efforts related to promoting the export and sales of Myanmar Boshan rice to the United States.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Myanmar Trade Promotion Bureau, the Consulate General of Myanmar in Los Angeles, the Commercial Counselor of Myanmar in the United States, the Department of Agriculture, the Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Myanmar Rice and Paddy Association, as well as representatives from the US company Well Luck.

At the meeting, U Ye Myint Aung, President of the Myanmar Rice and Paddy Association, and relevant officials, along with representatives from Well Luck LLC from the United States, engaged in a two-way discussion on the necessary procedures required to facilitate the export and sale of Myanmar Bosean rice to the United States, as well as the relevant requirements set by the U.S. FDA.

According to the Myanmar Trade Promotion Bureau, the meeting discussed the possibility of sending samples of Myanmar Bosean rice to the United States as a first step, and preliminary discussions were held on the feasibility of exporting approximately one container’s worth.

It is reported that the Myanmar Rice and Paddy Total Association first exported and sold Myanmar Bawshang rice to the United States in 2014. Currently, the association plans to introduce modern packaging methods to export Myanmar Bawshang rice to international markets.
