The 12th African Investment and Trade Forum (AFIC 12) opened on May 9 in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. The forum attracted approximately 2,000 delegates from 43 African countries and multiple international partners, including Vietnam.
Nourdine Wada, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of Algeria, and Mustapha Hidouei, Minister of Youth of Algeria, attended the opening ceremony.
The forum, which focused on the theme of “Jointly Opening Up Markets,” was jointly organized by the Arab-African Countries Investment and Development Center (CAAID), the African Union (AU), the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), and the Secretariat of the Continental Free Trade Area (Zlecaf).
According to the organizers, it is anticipated that multiple agreements covering investment, trade, and economic development will be signed during the two-day event. The purpose of this event is to promote productive investments, foster intra-African trade, and create more favorable conditions for market access.
The forum also serves as a platform for entrepreneurs, investors, representatives of economic and financial institutions, business chambers, and various regional and international organizations to exchange experiences and build connections, with the aim of identifying opportunities for cooperation and jointly driving economic growth.
During the forum, the organizers also set up an exhibition area to showcase large enterprises and representative products from various African countries and international partners. The Vietnamese Embassy and Trade Office in Algeria established a booth to highlight Vietnam’s strengths in agriculture, featuring its key products such as coffee, tea, pepper, turmeric, cinnamon, star anise, and other spices, as well as coconut milk, milk powder, fruit juice canned products, and plastic granules.
