The UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs released a revised notification of the “Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations” on May 13, 2026, introducing mandatory requirements for packaging recycling labels. The new rules stipulate that all imported and domestically produced packaging must bear standardized “recyclable” or “non-recyclable” labels and accompanying symbols. Manufacturers are required to provide proof of the recyclability of their packaging. Medical packaging and small-sized packaging are subject to limited exemptions. Companies that fail to display labels as required or display them incorrectly will face penalties.
