EU Reminds PPWR Regulation to Implement on August 12

The European Commission issued a reminder on May 6, 2026, that the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR, EU2025/40) will fully come into effect on August 12, 2026. The core requirements of the regulation include: the total content of lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium in packaging must not exceed 100 mg/kg; the use of PFAS in food-contact packaging is strictly restricted; the packaging’s void rate must not exceed 50% starting from 2030; and the use of disposable EPS containers is restricted. Companies found in violation may face fines up to 5% of their global turnover.
