ALDI Baker’s Corner All Purpose Flour is being recalled by the Rhode Island Department of Health after the potential presence of E. coli was found in that product. Officials tested a five pound bag of the product at the state health laboratories.

The advisory affects just one lot code of Baker’s Corner All Purpose Flour, packaged in five pound bags. The flour is packed for ALDI supermarkets. The lot code on the product is L18A02B, and the “best if used by” date is December 2, 2019. All other types of Baker’s Corner flour are not affected.

This recall is a good reminder that no one should consume products make with raw, or uncooked, flour. Flour is a raw agricultural product and has been contaminated with pathogens before. Any product that is grown outdoors can be contaminated by many different kinds of pathogens. Flour should be thoroughly cooked or baked before it is consumed. Never eat cookie dough or any batter that is made with uncooked flour. And parents should not make play dough for children using raw flour.

If you purchased this product, do not use it. Check your pantry to see if you have this flour. If you have decanted the flour into another container and aren’t sure whether or not you have this particular lot code of Baker’s Corner flour, discard it. If you have the flour, you can throw it away in a sealed container, or take it back to the store wher you purchased it for a full refund.

Clean out the area wher the flour was stored with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning and after handling this product.

The symptoms of an E. coli infection include severe and painful abdominal and stomach cramps, along with diarrhea that is usually bloody. Some people may have a mild fever or experience vomiting. Anyone who is experiencing these symptoms should see a doctor.
