To mark the publication of the 2016 edition of its Sustainable Development Report, Tereos presents its breakthroughs and reaffirms its commitments by publishing its 2020 targets.

“In order to offer a high quality food supply, we are committed to every step of the product manufacturing process, from the field to the consumer. This is what allows us to build our growth on a truly sustainable model, which places the circular economy at the heart of its actions,” commented Alexis Duval, Chief Executive Officer of Tereos.

With the use of infographics, key figures and concrete achievements, the 2016 Tereos Sustainable Development Report demonstrates Tereos’ commitment across its entire value chain in order to guarantee its sustainability and effectiveness of its production methods and the quality of its products.

o The choice of sustainable agriculture, because Tereos’ activities and their sustainability depend on the Earth, those who farm it, and their future. This year, 100% of the cooperative growers were evaluated as gold and silver by the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform (SAI). For the group as a whole, the total share of sustainable raw materials increased from 17% in 2015 to 48% this year. By 2020, the goal is to reach 75% of processed sustainable raw materials.

o Close relationships with the upstream agricultural sector: wherver possible, Tereos favors a direct supply with its agricultural partners. Today, this supply, whether direct or via dedicated channels, covers more than 99% of the raw materials processed by Tereos.

o ongoing efforts in the circular economy area, which enable the recovery of over 99% of the agricultural raw materials. Nothing is wasted, everything is processed, and what was waste yesterday today becomes an ingredient for animal feed or a source of energy, for example.

o The ambition to reduce energy and water consumption, and develop renewable energies. After having reduced the energy consumption of its French sugar factories by 20% in 5 years, Tereos has set a target to cut its energy consumption by 10% and its water consumption by 20% by 2020.
