German fragrances and flavourings manufacturer Symrise has opened a facility near Atlanta in Georgia, US, with an investment of €50m.

Located in Banks County, the facility is expected to help Symrise expand its business with natural ingredients for the US food industry market.

The plant will manufacture products for various business units including food ingredients, Symrise flavour and pet food.

Symrise CEO Dr Heinz-Jürgen Bertram said: “This advantageous location in the USA’s well-developed agricultural South-East enables us to strategically grow on the market for natural and sustainable food ingredients.

“With the new site in Georgia, we show that we consistently implement our investment programme. For example, only a couple of weeks ago, also in the USA, we have opened a plant for cosmetic ingredients in Charleston, South Carolina.

“The expansion of our capacities is and continues to be an important growth factor. We are strengthening our competitiveness for the traditionally largest market in our industry. In addition, we are strategically developing our backwards integration focusing on agriculturally produced raw materials.”

The company claims that its plant meets all technical standards of production of natural food ingredients.

Symrise intends to increase the facilities current workforce of 50 employees to 100 with future plant expansions.
