The Ministry of Transport and Communications inaugurated the port of Suwaiq last Saturday morning in the framework of its plans to develop and operate small and medium ports along the coast of the Sultanate and coordinate with strategic ports including Sohar, Daqum and Salalah.

The inauguration of the port comes under the patronage of His Excellency Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futtaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, in the belief of the governments role in supporting the national economy, enhancing the economic and social sector, diversifying national income sources, attracting foreign investments and establishing the Sultanate as a global logistic center.

The port of Suwaiq is the closest to the logistics area in South Batinah Province, which is targeting more than 55% of the Sultanates residents living in the governorate and neighboring governorates. It is also associated with the most important ports in the Sultanate. Also, Suwaiqs location is the best to receive materials from neighboring countries such as Pakistan, Iran and India.

Besides having room for vegetable and fruit storage, there will be shaded and air-conditioned areas for wholesale and retail outlets. It also features integrated storage solutions, including refrigerated warehouses for various products such as fruits, vegetables, fish and meat, as well as a world-class infrastructure that will serve logistics activities, including storage, packaging, handling and transportation.

The Central Vegetables and Fruits Market will serve as an integrated center for the wholesale and retail trade of vegetables, fruits, and red and white meat products in the Sultanate, bringing together importers, exporters, wholesalers, retailers and consumers.
