Randsland Farms is recalling Randsland brand Classic Coleslaw and Broccoli Slaw in Canada because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No reports of illness have been received in connection with these recalled products.

These products were sold in Nova Scotia at the retail level. They include Randsland Broccoli Slaw in 340 gram containers. The code on the product is 080118, and the UPC number is 0 57225 00008 7. Also recalled is Randsland Classic Coleslaw in 340 gram packages, with code 080118 and UPC number 0 57225 00007 0. The recall notice does not state the stores wher these products may have been sold.

If you bought either product, don’t eat it. Remember that foods that are contaminated with pathogenic bacteria will not look, smell, or taste spoiled. Throw the slaw away or take it back to the store wher you purchased it for a refund.

Then clean your refrigerator with a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of warm water to kill any remaining bacteria.

Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F, and freezing does not kill it. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning the fridge and after you touch or handle this product.

If you ate either of these products, monitor your health for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, for the next 2 months. It can take that long for symptoms to appear. People sick with listeriosis infections usually experience high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, and muscle aches. Pregnant women may suffer stillbirth, miscarriage, or premature labor with this infection, even though their illness is mild and similar to the flu. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
