E-commerce firm Alibaba Group has collaborated with US-based companies Driscoll’s and Thai unio/Chicken of the Sea to launch their food products to China.

Chinese consumers will be able to buy fresh strawberries and seafood directly on Alibabas Tmall platform.

Headquartered in Watsonville, California, Driscoll’s is a family-owned business that offers fruit products.

Driscoll’s China vice-president and general manager Jae Chun said: “The Chinese market opportunity for fresh, American-grown produce is tremendous, and we believe Alibaba allows us to expand consumer access to our berries, and we’ll be able to take full advantage of that opportunity.

We look forward to making our Driscoll’s finest berries available to Chinese consumers.”

Alibaba intends to help US small businesses, farmers and entrepreneurs explore growth opportunities in China, wher there is a growing consumer demand for quality products from the US.

Located in New Jersey, Chicken of the Sea offers packaged seafood to its customers.

Thai unio/Chicken of the Sea emerging markets managing director Faisal Sheikh said: “Chinese consumers are increasingly discerning and demanding, putting a premium on safety and quality when shopping for fresh and chilled seafood, such as lobster, shrimp and salmon."

Alibaba vice-president Jet Jing said: "These mutually beneficial partnerships will allow Alibaba to diversify the options available to consumers on our platforms, and we can help both Driscoll’s and Chicken of the Sea to successfully build their brand and presence in China."

According to Produce Report, 36 million households in China bought fresh products online last year and this number is expected to double by 2020.

Alibaba’s logistics affiliate Cainiao Network enables same-day and next-day delivery to more than 1,100 counties and districts in China.
