Aldi recalls its Christmas chocolate after issuing an urgent alert that the seasonal treats may contain peanuts, sparking immediate allergy concerns ahead of the festive rush.

The supermarket has withdrawn its Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks Christmas chocolate treat as a precaution, warning customers that all 90g packs and all best-before dates are affected.

Aldi confirmed the product is being removed from sale immediately and said it has contacted allergy support organisations to ensure the warning is communicated quickly to consumers most at risk. The retailer has also issued clear point-of-sale notices in stores, explaining the recall and advising shoppers on the next steps.

In its recall notice, Aldi said:

We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”
