Recall roundup: Salmonella, insects, and undeclared allergens

Pathogens

In the US, PepsiCo Mexico has voluntarily recalled its 15.5 oz, six box of Gamesa Arcoiris Marshmallow cookies due to it potentially being contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled product was distributed to warehouses in California and Texas and may have reached consumers through selec retail stores.

Consumers have been advised to look out for the naturally and artificially flavoured Gamesa Arcoiris Marshmallow cookies with the UPC code 6 86700 10132 4. For a full list of best before dates, click here.

The company is working with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to further investigate the issues to make sure the recalled product is removed from store shelves and is no longer distributed.

No illnesses related to Salmonella have been confirmed to date.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product have been advised not to consume it, instead they should dispose of it immediately.

Insects

Canadian multinational chain Tim Hortons is recalling its brand Soup base Chicken Noodle due to the presence of insects.

The pack size to look out for is 3.56kg and the UPC code is 000 66200 02329 4. For a full list of best before dates that are subject to recall, click here.

The Government of Canada has stated that the product’s audience included hotels, restaurants and institutions and was sold in ontario and Alberta.  

Consumers have been advised not to use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product.

Undeclared allergens

In the UK, Hotel Chocolat is recalling its Caramel Milk Batons purchased between 21 October and 9 November as the product contains peanuts that are not mentioned on the label.

The pack size of the product is 120g and has a batch code of either Lot 22286 and Lot 22287. The best before date is July 2023.

Hotel Chocolat has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers to explain why the product is being recalled.

Customers who have bought the product and have an allergy to peanuts have been advised to not eat it. Instead, they can return it to the store it was purchased from for a full refund.

Also in the UK, Holland & Barrett has recalled its Soya Lecithin soft gel capsules due to undeclared peanuts.

The recalled pack sizes include Ultra Soya Lecithin 1200mg containing either 50 capsules, 100 capsules or 250 capsules, as well as Mega Soya Lecithin 1325mg which contains 100 capsules.

Holland & Barrett has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations that will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers about why the product is being recalled.

Those who have purchased the product and have an allergy to peanuts have been advised not to consume the capsules. They can return the product to the store of purchase for a full refund.
