US-based food manufacturer JM Smucker Company is maximising production as part of measures to support its communities as they deal with the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

The company noted that all its manufacturing facilities are open and operational. The decision to increase the production of its popular items is to ensure a continuous supply of food.

It has also extended the working hours of its distribution centres so that retailers can continually restock their food inventories.

JM Smucker president and CEO Mark Smucker said: “We understand the uncertainty people are feeling right now, and are committed to doing our part to ease some of that concern by supporting our employees and communities while ensuring people and pets have access to a steady supply of food.”

It has decided to offer 12 weeks of full pay and benefits continuation to employees affected due to closure of its manufacturing or distribution facility due to Covid-19.

The company is issuing a one-time $1,500 hardship award to nearly 5,700 employees involved in manufacturing, distribution and other activities.

JM Smucker is also seeding an assistance fund with $100,000 for employees affected by the pandemic.

It is also donating $300,000 to organisations, including Red Cross, Feeding America and the United Way, to support their Covid-19 relief efforts.

Furthermore, 14 days of paid sick leave has been offered to the people who are required to attend to the needs of their loved ones affected by the virus.
