US-based food company Kraft Heinz has completed the acquisition of Primal Nutrition, which falls under the Primal Kitchen brand.

In November 2018,  Kraft Heinz signed a definitive agreement to acquire condiments and sauce producer Primal Nutrition for approximately $200m.

Kraft Heinz US Zone president Paulo Basilio said: “Primal Kitchen is an authentic, premium and growing brand that complements our core Condiments and Sauces categories.

“We are excited to partner with the Company’s strong team to drive growth across multiple categories and reach more consumers looking for these amazing products.”

Established by Mark Sisson and Morgan Buehler, Primal Nutrition offers condiments, sauces and dressings including mayonnaise, salad dressing and avocado oil.

With the completion of the deal, Primal Kitchen will now become part of Kraft Heinz’s Springboard, a platform created by the company to partner with innovative and startup brands.

Primal Kitchen will operate as an independent business unit and will be led by its current leadership team, but will leverage Kraft Heinz’s assets and infrastructure. It will remain headquartered in Oxnard, California.

Primal Kitchen co-founder Mark Sisson said: “Kraft Heinz recognises the value of our Primal Kitchen mission and the consumer demand for it.

“This philosophy will stay with us as we leverage the resources of this new partnership to reach millions more of the consumers who have been seeking products like ours for years.”

In November 2018, The Kraft Heinz Company signed a definitive agreement to divest its Canadian natural cheese business to Parmalat for C$1.62bn (approximately $1.23bn).

This transaction includes the sale of natural cheese brands Cracker Barrel, P’tit Quebec and aMOOza in Canada.
