US-based Chunwei has recalled 65,023lb of various ready-to-eat and raw meat products, as they were misbranded and contain undeclared allergens.

Products being recalled by the company contain known allergens such as wheat, dairy, soy, sesame, egg and monosodium glutamate (MSG). These allergens were not declared on the finished product label, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

FSIS identified the issue while conducting a routine label verification task.

Products that are subject to recall bear establishment number EST P-8110 or EST 8110 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The misbranded products were produced on various dates from 16 November 2017 through 19 November 2018 and were shipped to distributors and retail locations across the US.

Until now, the company has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions or injury to consumers due to consumption of these products.

The agency, however, is concerned that some products may already be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers. It has urged customers concerned about an injury or illness to contact a healthcare provider.

The recall has been categorised as Class I, which indicates that use of the product could cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

FSIS performs recall effectiveness checks on a routine basis to verify that firms notify their customers of the recall and that measures are adequately taken so that products are no longer available in the market.

In September, US-based poultry processor and producer Wayne Farms recalled 438,960lb of frozen cooked chicken products over concerns of possible presence of metal pieces.
