Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) and co-operative institutes in the state of Maharashtra will get a subsidy of ₹30.000 (€365) per container if they export fruits and vegetables directly by sea. The Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB) has decided to give out subsidies in order to promote farm export by farmers.

"The scheme will be effective for seleced fruits and for selected countries. Subsidy will be given on export of fruits like mango, pomegranate, banana, onion and vegetables to eight selec countries," said an official from MSAMB.

Farmers will get subsidy if they export mango and pomegranate to the USA and Australia, banana and mango to South Korea, Afghanistan and Russia, mango to Kazakhstan, banana, orange and mango to Iran, onion and mango to Mauritius, and onion and other vegetables to Latvia.

Each FPC or co-operative institute will be given subsidy of 35% on rent of container for exporting fruits and vegetable by sea. They will get subsidy only if they are exporting their products by using TEU- or FEU-containers (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit or Forty Foot Equivalent Unit.)

According to an article on timesofindia.indiatimes.com, each beneficiary will get subsidy up to ₹100,000 (€1,220) a year. The scheme is already in effect and MSAMB has already made a provision of ₹10 mln (€122,000), so far for a period of one year.

Nashik is known for producing large numbers of onions. Moreover, fruits like pomegranate and mangoes are also produced in large numbers in the district
It is mandatory to irradiate fruits when exporting them to the USA and Australia and there is an irradiation centre of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at Lasalgaon. Last season, over 500 tons of mangoes were processed there.
