US grocery chain Haggen has recalled several deli salads, wraps and other products as they contain diced onions that are possibly tainted with Salmonella. The onions were sourced from Taylor Farms of Salinas, California.

The recalled products sold in the deli include Old Fashion Potato Salad, Cashew Chicken Salad, Turkey Curry Salad, with UPC codes of 202932, 202928 and 202986, respectively. These products carried sell-by dates of 15 to 19 March.

Cashew Chicken Salad Wrap, Cashew Chicken Croissants (two-pack), Cashew Chicken Croissant Tray, and Tartar Sauce with UPC codes of 203681, 203908, 203812, 202804 were the other recalled products sold in the deli from the self-service case. These products carried sell-by dates of 15 to 19 March.

“Haggen has advised customers who purchased the food items to either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.”

The tartar sauce was also offered as a condiment with made-to-order Fish & Chips from the deli section. It carried UPC codes of 206000, 206001, 206004, 206006, with purchase dates of 13 to 17 March.

Salmonella can cause serious or even fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. once infected, people experience fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Salmonella can also get into the bloodstream and produce arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

So far, no illnesses associated with this recall have been reported. Haggen has advised customers who purchased the food items to either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The recall notice, however, did not specify how the possible Salmonella contamination was discovered.
