The USDA’s FSIS is issuing a public health alert for Mary’s Harvest Fresh Kale & Broccoli Slaw salad made with chicken for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. A recall has not been issued because officials think that all products are no longer in commerce and are past their “Best by” dates.

These salads were produced from October 6 through October 10, 20107. They have the establishment number “P-39928” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations in Oregon and Washington state.

The recalled product is 8.75-ounce containers with “Kale & Broccoli Slaw Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast (Rib Meat)” with item #20346 and a “Use By” dates of: 10/12/17 through 10/16/17. The problem was discovered on October 19, 2017 when the firm received notification from Mann packing that the broccoli was recalled for possible Listeria. There have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with this product to date.

If you bought this product, do not eat it. It should be discarded in a sealed package. It’s important to then clean out your refrigerator with a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water to kill any remaining bacteria.

If you have eaten it, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, for 70 days. That’s how long it can take for symptoms to appear. Those symptoms can include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, abdominal cramps, muscle aches, loss of balance, and diarrhea. The elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women are most at risk for serious complications from this infection.

Pregnant women may only have a mild illness, similar to the flu, if they contract listeriosis. But this illness can causer life-threatening infection of the newborn baby, miscarriages, stillbirth, and premature labor and delivery. If you do feel sick, see your doctor and tell him you ate this recalled product.
