The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public alert for a ready-to-eat white chicken chili product imported from Canada without undergoing required import reinspection.
FSIS inspection personnel uncovered the issue after determining the chicken chili wasn’t presented for reinspection upon entering the U.S.
The agency announced the public health alert on March 31, opting not to request a recall since the product is no longer on store shelves.
The product carries the Canadian establishment seal “7011” and was distributed to selec Costco locations in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
The following product is subject to the alert:
7 lbs. 2 oz. cartons containing eight 14.3-oz. plastic tubs of “Allen Family Foods White Chicken Chili with Bell Peppers, Corn & White Beans”
As of the posting of this alert, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions. The agency however is concerned that some of the product could still be in consumers’ pantries.
Consumers who have this chili are urged not to eat it. Instead, toss it out or return it to the place of purchase. Anyone worried about a reaction should reach out to a healthcare provider.
