97 Rowan Foods employees test Covid-19 positive at Wrexham factory

Nearly 100 people working at Rowan Foods Wrexham factory in the UK have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19).

The factory is said to have a workforce of 1,500 employees.

The company has been following the government advice on health and safety, as well as pay, according to the BBC.

A Rowan Foods spokesman was quoted by BBC as saying: “We have been proactively introducing new operational changes at the site for some months now, since the issuing of government guidance for the food industry in March 2020, to ensure that we maintain social distancing wherver practically possible, and have also included new mitigations such as screens and visors.”

Wales Health Minister Vaughan Gething explained that more than 1,000 tests have been conducted at the facility, and all contacts of cases are being followed up and tested. In addition, all cases and contacts are self-isolating.

He added that the factory will be remain opened.

British and Irish trade unio Unite carried out discussions with the company and said that the Wrexham factory is putting staff safety at risk.
