Tyson Foods recalls Weaver chicken products over contamination concern

US-based meat producer Tyson Foods has recalled 39,078lb of Weaver brand frozen chicken products due to possible contamination with extraneous materials.

According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the frozen and fully cooked chicken items were produced on 31 January.

The recalled product, ‘Weaver breaded chicken breast patties with rib meat’, was packed in 26.oz re-sealable plastic bags bearing the establishment number ‘P-13456’ on the back of the bag.

Tyson Foods notified FSIS about the problem after it received consumer complaints.

The recall has been categorised as Class I, which indicates that consumption of the product could cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

The US agency said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the products and urged concerned consumers to contact a healthcare provider.

According to the regulatory authority, the products may have been stored in consumers’ freezers and has urged people not to consume them.

In June, Tyson Foods recalled nearly 190,757lb of ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken fritter productsover possible foreign matter contamination, specifically hard plastic, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The products that were subject to recall included 32.81lb cases containing four 8.2lb bags of ‘Fully Cooked, Whole Grain Golden Crispy Chicken Chunk Fritters-Cn’ and had the establishment number ‘P-1325’ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Produced on 28 February, the frozen ready-to-eat chicken fritters were shipped to institutional foodservice locations nationwide and were not packaged for retail sale.
