Maca (Lepidium meyenii Walp) is native to Andes Region of South America at altitude of 3500-4500 meters. Maca belongs to the family of Brassicaceae. Its fleshy hypocotyl is white or faint yellow, with special fragrant smell. Maca is nutrient-rich and contains 59% carbohydrates, more than 10% protein, 2.2% fat, phytosterol, minerals (Fe, Zn, Mg, Cu) and various branched-chain amino acid. Maca is distributed mainly close to Junin Lake in Peru.
