For ion-exchange resin in the long-term stotage or need to be stored in off stream unit for a long time, strong-type resin (strong acid and strong base resin ) should be turned into salt and the weak-type resin (weakly acidic and weakly basic resin ) can be transformed to corresponding hydrogen-based or free amine.
Then it needs to be soaked in clean water. If the off stream until need to drain the water, it should be sealed in order to prevent water lose of the resin.
Ion-exchange resins contain a certain amount of equilibrium water. During the storage and transportation, it should be kept moist to prevent dehydration.
Resin should be stored indoors or be covered and 5℃—40℃ ambient temperature is appropriate. Bagged resin should avoid direct sunlight, away form boilers, heaters and other heating devices to prevent dehydration. If the dehydration has been found in resins, putting the resin into the water directly is strictly forbidden so as to aviod the rapid swelling of dry resin in comtact with water and broken. According to their degree of dehydration, with about 10% salt water slowly added to the resin, soak a few hours later and gradually diluted with clean water.
When the ambient temperature raeach at 0℃ or below, good insulation measures should be taken in order to prevent the resin crack due to water freezing or the resin is stored in the corresponding saline solution to prevent freezing. If resins have been frozen, the natural slow thawing is necessary and mechanical force can’t be imposed on the resins.
