The negotiations for the opening of the Mexican market to sweet citrus fruits - oranges and tangerines - from Argentina are progressing. A delegation of the National Food Health, Safety, and Quality Service (Senasica) visited productive establishments and packaging facilities in Corrientes and Entre Ríos and inspected the Senasa Certification System to various destinations.

The Mexican delegation checked the phytosanitary situation of the crops in the productive regions to accelerate the terms of the Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) and to establish phytosanitary import requirements.

"Mexico is an important market for Argentina. Last year we started exporting lemons to that destination and now we are working to open that market for sweet citrus fruits. based on the results of this visit, we are optimistic that we could start exporting next season," said the national director of Plant Protection of Senasa, Diego Quiroga.

The Mexican delegation expressed their satisfaction with the results of the visit in a meeting with the vice president of Senasa, Guillermo Rossi, and stated that there was a good articulation between the public and private sectors in the actions of the certification system.
