According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency on May 18, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture confirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has established a comprehensive food security model that balances local production development with efficient import management, enhances food stability, and ensures access to high-quality products in all regions, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Over the past five years, the compound annual growth rate of the agricultural sector has exceeded 7%. Modern irrigation technologies have reduced the usage of non-renewable water resources by 52% compared to 2016. It is projected that the total production of agricultural products and food will exceed 16 million tons by 2024, contributing approximately $31.5 billion to the country’s gross domestic product.
The self-sufficiency rate for various products exceeds 100%. The self-sufficiency rate for dates is 121%, for dairy products is 131%, and for fresh eggs is 103%. In terms of animal products, the self-sufficiency rate for shrimp is 149%, for poultry meat is 72%, and for red meat is 62%.
