PepsiCo to Roll Out Bedtime Beverage

PepsiCo is adding to its portfolio of functional beverages with Driftwell, which is being marketed as a sleep aid.

Driftwell contains 200ml of L-theanine, an amino acid found in tea and some mushrooms that some studies have shown to promote relaxation and sleep. The 7.5-oz. cans will also have 10% of the recommended daily value of magnesium.

Driftwell is scheduled to roll out online by the end of the year and appear on store shelves by the first quarter of 2021. It was the winner of an internal competition among PepsiCo employees to suggest new products. A PepsiCo executive told CNBC that Driftwell will have the fastest time to market of any recent company product.

The addition of Driftwell will beef up PepsiCo’s lineup of functional beverages, which was enhanced when it bought Rockstar Energy Beverages earlier this year.
