Strawberries are a common sight in the market around this time of year but prices have fallen nearly 50% since the Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019]. The strawberries on the market around Spring Festival came from greenhouse plantations. The price was around 20 yuan [2.98 USD] per 0.5 kg when the greenhouse strawberries just entered the market. After Spring Festival the price of strawberries continuously fell. The current price is around 9 yuan [1.34 USD] per 0.5 kg. Now that the strawberry supply is much larger and other fruits have also entered the market, competition is greater, and the price is coming down.

The strawberries on the market can be divided in two categories: cream strawberries and fragrant strawberries. The price of cream strawberries is relatively high. The main supply of strawberries comes from local greenhouse plantations. Weather conditions during Spring Festival were unstable, and even though the price came down since Spring Festival, the price is still higher than it was around this time last year. This is the time when greenhouse strawberries enter the market in bulk, and the price is likely to come down even further.
