Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has entered into a long-term partnership with Thailand-based tapioca starch producer General Starch.

ADM will gain exclusive distribution rights of General Starch’s modified tapioca products in most European countries, as well as the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

The company will have access to a full range of modified tapioca starches for the food industry. The non-GMO speciality products offer viscosity and have a clean neutral flavour profile. They can be used as an alternative to modified waxy corn and potato starches in a wide range of food.

Additionally, the product range includes modified tapioca starches that can be used in a variety of industries, such as textiles and adhesives or for wet-end applications replacing the cationic potato starches.

Starch improves stability by binding water in food systems and is suitable for products such as dressings, sauces, bakery fillings, ice cream, yoghurt, soups, bakery, beverages, meat and dry sausage.

The tapioca starches will be sold under the ADM brand in the second phase of the partnership.

ADM EMEA Starches sales director Johan Schrijver said: “We are very excited to expand our European portfolio with another raw material, which will generate great opportunities and new developments supported by our Starch Lab in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

“This partnership puts ADM in a position to develop innovative customer solutions through a broad range of starches, each with unique properties and showcases our commitment to become one of the leading starch suppliers in EMEA.”
