The USDA has issued a public health alert for one flavor of Hungry Man boneless chicken wings, being recalled by Pinnacle Foods for possible Salmonella contamination. This product is made with whey powder that has been recalled for possible contamination by the pathogenic bacteria. There have been other secondary recalls of products made with this ingredient and may be more in the future. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

The recalled product is 15.25-ounce individual frozen microwavable dinners with “Hungry Man Chipotle BBQ Sauced Boneless Chicken Wyngz” printed on the label. The best by date on the product is 9/6/19. The product has the establishment number “EST. P138″ or P-138” on the side of the carton. This product was shipped to retail locations in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The problem was discovered on July 17, 2018, when Pinnacle Foods was notified by their supplier that the recalled whey powder was used in the ranch dressing seasoning. That ingredient was used to make mashed potatoes and was packaged as a component in the frozen dinner.

If you purchased this product, don’t eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double wrapped package, or take it back to the store wher you bought it for a full refund.

The symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning include fever, abdominal cramps and pains, vomiting, and diarrhea that may be bloody. People usually get sick 12 to 72 hours after eating food that is contaminated with this pathogen. If you have eaten this recalled product and have been sick, see your doctor.
