Following the regular inspections carried out last month, 85 tonnes of poor quality fruit and vegetables were seized from two markets in the Plovdiv area, as reported to FOCUS Radio by the Director of the Regional Directorate of Food Safety in the city, Dr Kamen Yankov.

In his words, a good share of this huge volume corresponded to watermelons that were not fit for consumption. After the inspectors confiscated the fruits and vegetables, traders were fined. "All the seized production was destroyed," Yankov said. He also said that the inspections on the exchanges and markets on the territory of Plovdiv and the region will continue in the coming weeks.
