According to Vietnam News Agency reports, the first Lóng Phiêng Plum Festival of 2026 was held in Lóng Phiêng Village, Sơn La Province, from May 9 to 10, attracting a wide range of people and tourists from within and outside the province, as well as from Laos.
During this year’s Plum Festival, a wide range of engaging and meaningful activities were held, such as plum-picking competitions, exhibitions of agricultural products, presentations about Longfeng Township, and cultural sports and arts events featuring national ethnic characteristics.
It is worth noting that the organizing committee has also set up a digital transformation booth to showcase and promote local specialty products on digital platforms, educate the public about e-commerce, and apply technology in the production and sale of agricultural products, as well as hold activities such as on-site experiences at plum orchards.
Longfeng Township is a border township in Shanlu Province, covering an area of 147.81 square kilometers. The border with Laos stretches for 22.785 kilometers.
For many years, Longfeng Township has prioritized the simultaneous advancement of agricultural economic development and rural construction, fully tapping into the existing potential and advantages of the region. Among these efforts, the plum has gradually established itself as the dominant crop, with an area under cultivation exceeding 1,000 hectares. The production is projected to reach nearly 10,000 tons by 2026. The quality of the plums has continued to improve, with safe and sustainable cultivation methods being employed, and advanced technologies and standardized production models gradually being introduced. These initiatives have effectively increased farmers’ incomes, improved living conditions, and promoted local economic and social development.
In the future, Longfeng Township will focus on promoting the development of plum industry, improving the quality of plums, creating a strong brand image, applying scientific and technological methods, and expanding sales markets. Gradually, a comprehensive industry chain of “product production, processing, and sales” will be established. Additionally, we will integrate agricultural development with experiential tourism to fully tap into the potential and advantages of this border town, enhance the value of agricultural products, create employment opportunities, and increase people’s income.
Lu Wenzhong, Chairman of Longfeng Township People’s Committee, stated that the Plum Festival is not only an opportunity to promote plum products, but also helps to enhance the image of Longfeng Township’s local culture and customs. Additionally, it facilitates trade exchanges, strengthens the connection between supply and demand, and attracts the attention of enterprises, cooperatives, and investors both within and outside the province. Through this, it aims to drive agricultural production towards commercialization, enhance the value of agricultural products, and work towards sustainable agricultural development, ultimately increasing the local residents’ income.
